Temple restaurant – review

For my friend’s birthday (wahoo!) I thought about taking her to a nice place, the kind you need to dress up and all.
So I started sniffing around for recommendations and I stumbled upon a restaurant that’s called Temple.
After a short browse in their menu I have decided to give it a try! (make sure you make reservations in advance!).
So when the date arrive off we went.
Though the path to the restaurant is through Hutongs (not very clean ones) when we got to the place itself it looked totally different.
The entrance is elegant and from the moment you approach the restaurant you are being treated like a member of the British royal family.

But enough intro – let’s talk business:
We were seated in a corner sofa kind table, and 2 waiters spread cloth on our legs and at the same moment 2 other waiters gave us some complimentary starter dishes – 1 was Salmon and cheese on a cracker (very good!) and the other was a cheese puff dish.
They also gave a basket with excellent fresh bread and butter, and they kept refreshing both which was very nice.
One complimentary starter which both me and my friend did not like too much was the Lobster mousse– although I am sure that if you are really into seafood you will like.

For starters we took the “Gravlax” (salmon) – Gravlax, Egg, Capers, Shallots and Horseradish Cream.
We also took the Risotto – Foie Gras Risotto, Shimeji, Parmesan in Red Wine Sauce – both dishes were excellent!

For main dishes we took the Beef steak – Beef Tenderloin, Mashed Potatoes, Olives, Baby Spinach, Green Pepper with Corn Sauce and the Lamb – Herb Crusted Lamb Loin, Cous Cous, Merguez, Okra with Cumin Mint Yogurt – both dishes were very very good, but a little small in my opinion.
With that I took a glass of Spanish wine – L’Olivette 2009, which was very good, but the glass was not too generous (for the price paid – again, in my opinion only).

For dessert we took the Feuilletine Praline and the Brulée – both were very good!

At the end of the meal the waitress came and asked us if she can help us with transportation (taxi) which was much appreciated and just before we left we got a box with a small gift each – very nice of them.
To know what the gift was – I guess you will have to go eat there yourself:)

That’s about it – all and all the food was beyond expectation and  it was a very nice experience.
Definitely recommended.

I have been living in China since early 2013 in the great Beijing. I try to travel as much as I can and try to understand the culture and the habits as much as possible. It's amazing how much can be learned about China, and about life, while living abroad in a totally different country than the one you grew up in. I love it! Catch up on my blog to try and understand along with me:) Adam.
